Who Am I?

Hi I'm Sumukh Vasisht Shankar an aspiring Data Scientist and Tech Enthusiast. Currently pusuing Masters in Data Science at Northeastern University, Boston.
I'm passionate about research in the field of Deep Learning. Currently I'm working with Dr. Robin Walters on the topic of Equivariant Neural Networks for Spatial Light Modulator.
This research is a part of the Khoury Research Apprenticeship Program.

Sketching, playing piano and guitar, reading novels are some of my favorite past times apart from doing some geeky stuff on my laptop.

Work Experience

Research Assistant, Khoury College of Computer Sciences August, 2022 - Present

1. Working on a Geometric Deep Learning project to develop Equivariant Neural Network for Spatial Light Modulator (SLM) to learn and predict the input temperature signal necessary to produce a light pattern in an SLM.
2. Building equivariant networks and incorporating additional symmetries into the model from the Thin Film Lubrication Equation for better learning from fewer training samples.
3. Successfully simulated 4th order differential equation for variables that varied both spatially and temporally to generate data.

Data Engineer III Intern, Walmart May, 2022 - August, 2022

1. Worked on an initiative to enable real-time data streaming for W+ customer data to enable real-time reporting and analytics.
2. Cut down latency in the process of data acquisition to data insights from 24 hours to a few minutes to enable faster decision making.
3. Utilized Spark Streaming and Apache Flink to develop pipelines to handle data in the scale of petabytes for real-time data aggregation, transformation.

Researcher, Khoury College of Computer Sciences January, 2022 - October 2022

1. Designed, collected, and analysed Internet measurement campaigns that illuminate data localization practices in the European Union.
2. Implemented working PoCs for various research papers and integrated the various data collection techniques.
3. Utilized distributed systems to speed up the data collection process by more than ten times.
4. Explored the use of and implemented Machine Learning models for predicting the Physical Locations of IP addresses.

Data Engineer, Lazer Lab at The Network Science Institute November, 2021 - Present

1. Optimized existing pipeline to clean and tidy twitter data of over 40 million records.
2. Implementing scalable data pipelines to identify and characterize social behavior from social media data.
3. Developed a script to identify 50k unique voter records out of 1.8M records at the state level.

SWE Intern, FICO January, 2021 - June, 2021

1. Worked in the Metadata Services team on the FICO Data Management Platform.
2. Wrote 10+ APIs for Regular Expression Validation of various information fields.
3. Contributed towards Increasing the code coverage of the project by over 11%.
4. Experienced with Java Springboot, SQL, and Docker.

Research Intern, Antriksh Labs Pvt. Ltd. February, 2020 - December, 2020

1. Worked on an AutoML SaaS Product.
2. Contributed towards the design and development of an automated pipeline for Data Visualization, Exploratory Data Analysis, and Statistical Analysis.
3. Wrote numerous APIs to carry out Data Visualization and statistical analysis of datasets.
